This piece tells the tragic love story of Orpheus, the poet and gifted musician of Greek myth. It tells a journey of Orpheus descending to the underworld to rescue his lover, Eurydice. However, Hades, the God of the dead and the King of the underworld, would return Eurydice to him only if he never look at his lover while leading her ascending to the Earth. As they were approaching to the surface, the agreement was broken when Orpheus turned his head for a quick glance as he was unable to hear Eurydice's footsteps. Eurydice was swept back to the underworld forever. Orpheus sung his grief with his lyre till he died heard by everything in the world.
The broken trail displayed in the middle symbolizes the moment when the agreement was broken, and Orpheus lost his lover forever. The wavy and rough texture of this piece visualizes how the sound of Orpheus' lyre being heard the world underneath. A man who never give up on his love.
