Robert Ellis Thompson(1844-1924) was an Irish immigrant who moved to Philadelphia at 13. He studied at the University of Pennsylvania and then became a mathematics teacher. He earned his Ph.D. from Hamilton College and his LL.D. from Muhlenberg College. He lectured at Harvard, Yale, and Princeton. He edited multiple news articles and also helped with the Encyclopedia Britannica in 1883.
Albert Rosenthal(1863-1939). Graduated from PAFA and studied in France at the Academy Julian in 1880. Rosenthal wrote multiple books on painting and the art of portraits. Rosenthal was a member of the Washington Art Club, Salmagundi Club, Charcoal Club in Baltimore, the Locust Club in Philadelphia and the American Federation of Art. He received a bronze medal at the St. Louis Exposition in 1904 and a bronze medal at the Panama-Pacific Exposition in San Francisco, 1915. Rosenthal also exhibited at the Salon of Independent Artists in 1917 and the Salons of America.
