Impressionist river landscape
This 24 x 30 inch work is a painting of a landscape. The artist is unknown; however, there is a signature in the bottom right corner. The style is similar to that of impressionist artists, seeing as though the brush strokes are visible and the paint is thickly applied, creating the 'unfinished' look that adheres impressionist styles. There are two discernible/more detailed trees depicted, one is positioned more in the foreground and on the left hand side of the work, while the other is a little further in the background and on the right hand side of the work, which happens to be positioned on the other side of the river bank depicted-- opposite of the tree in the foreground. The water in the small river, reflects the tree that stands on the right side, and the blue sky. The river disappears behind foliage, into the background of the work, towards the left side of the composition. Behind the river and behind the distant tree, there are more representative trees that sort of blend into the background as they recede further into the scene. The artist uses earth tones, mainly greens and browns, to fully portray the natural atmosphere of the depicted landscape and also adhering to the calm and peaceful feeling that the work exudes. The black and silver frame work well with the piece and has simple ornate details on each corner of the black frame and silver border.
