"Oklahoma's skies are incredibly vivid, full of color and drama, and they've always fascinated me," says Russian-American artist Eve Cornejo. In 'Oklahoma Sky', Cornejo's large, wispy light pink clouds almost project out of the vibrant shades of cerulean blue. The tree beneath, which might tower over the viewer if not for the distance within the composition, appears small in comparison. This sense of scale coupled with the vast openness of the scene conveys a sense of introspective, albeit powerful, peace.
In 2024, this work was selected for the annual exhibition in the Oklahoma Hall of Fame. Inspired by travel, nature, and human connection, Eve Cornejo treats her practice as an extension of her desire to capture the wide spectrum of human emotion through color, mood and texture. Her artworks blend Realist subject matter with Impressionist-like brushstrokes and temperature. Her practice evolved from a self-guided curiosity during her time at home raising her children, and she considers painting a larger exploration into human emotion and connection. Currently, Cornejo is based just outside of Oklahoma City.
