This 40" x 30" x 2" acrylic on wood painting by California-based artist Sarah Folkman depicts a backwards diving nude female. A swan embraces her arm, cradling her body with its neck and spread wings in an apparent attempt to fly the figure to safety. The pattern of the wood grain peeks through most of the composition, with minimal color peeking through the swan. The translucency adds a layer of dreamlike curiosity, a subconscious fight or flight. The female figure and swam almost are almost lost in wood as they seemingly are one with nature. The painting is signed on back.

Sarah Folkman was born and raised in Los Angeles. She began painting at the age of 20, her work utilizing many figurative and symbolic elements.
