This 18" x 19.5" bronze horse sculpture by internationally renowned sculptor, Andy Scott, is a study for a large scale steel sculpture in Leeds, England. The majestic neck and head of the horse are bowed low, balanced by a tail in movement. The four legs of the horse come together pivoting on a square bronze base. This is number 6 in an edition of 30.

The work has been exhibited in the US in Philadelphia, New York, Delaware, and Los Angeles and in the UK in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Linlithgow.

Andy Scott is a figurative sculptor who works on a grand scale. An Honours graduate of the renowned Glasgow School of Art in the U.K. (1986) his artworks combine traditional draftsmanship and skill with contemporary fabrication techniques. They range in scale from 10 to100 feet (3 to 30 meters) in height.

Living dynamic forms are shaped by hand from steel and clay using techniques honed over 30 years as a professional sculptor. He works for a broad spectrum of corporate, civic, sporting and private clients, with his distinctive sculptures achieving widespread acclaim and recognition.

Andy’s artworks inhabit the public realm and private estates, dramatising their environments and creating a sense of place and civic pride. His prodigious studio output now extends to over 80 projects internationally. Many of his sculptures grace very prominent locations and are enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of viewers every day. His artworks stand up to the rigours of the public domain and transform the environments they inhabit.

In Spring 2014 “The Kelpies” were unveiled: a pair of 30 metre (100ft) tall horse heads in the Scottish town of Falkirk, the largest equine sculptures in the world. They have been awarded numerous accolades including the UK Structural Steel Award and the Saltire Award for Civil Engineering.

Officially recognized as a UK National Treasure, they’ve featured extensively in international print and social media and have been been used in numerous advertising campaigns as far afield as China, Australia and the USA. They’ve earned Andy four Honorary Doctorates from leading UK Universities and Honorary Fellowships in the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland and the Guild of Hammermen (One of the ancient trades guilds of the City of Glasgow, Scotland)

In 2016 Andy and his manager wife, Dutch architect Hanneke Scott-van Wel moved to Philadelphia PA under the exceptional artistic talent visa program and established their current fully-equipped 6,000 sq ft workshop studio space in the city. From there they now work across the USA and internationally.

Andy’s accolades and recognition continues: in 2019 he was awarded the “Great Scot” award by the National Trust for Scotland USA, and has recently been appointed as a “GlobalScot” by the Scottish Enterprise government agency in his native country: acting as an overseas cultural and business ambassador for the nation. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts and a member of The Royal Society of British Sculptors.

Recent and on-going projects include two large bronze memorial sculptures in the UK, two commissions in Mexico, a project in Colorado and a series of three large-scale animal themed sculptures for New Hampshire. Andy has just secured a prestigious commission in England and is developing several exciting new projects.
