Laurel Nathanson x
Bio
Laurel lives in a purple doll house in Oakland, California, with her two pups, Bonnie and Bailey. She has been metalsmithing for over 35 years and her work has been exhibited and published world wide. She teaches jewelry and sewing at a high-school in San Francisco and is constantly inspired by the creativity of her students.
When not creating, teaching or walking her pups, Laurel can be found wherever there is an 80’s night dance party.
Artist Statement
Pattern and color permeate the work of artist and jeweler, Laurel Nathanson. Her current body of jewelry is an exciting combination of textured silver, plexiglass, glass beads and semi precious stone beads. It is the combination of the precious, natural materials, with non-valuable, man-made materials that Laurel is excited by, and that gives this work an unexpected quality. All of her textures are hand stamped, giving slight variation to each piece, emphasizing a sense of hand-made. She designs many of own stamps and continues to evolve her texture patterns. Laurel only makes one-of-a-kind pieces, ranging from everyday wearable pieces, to special occasion statement pieces, all embedded with her dedication to craft, and the exploration of design and materials.
