Dalayna Christenson x
Bio
Dalayna Christenson is a Montana born Artist living in Butte Montana. As a child her grandfather, an artist himself, encouraged her to draw and supported her with many gifts of paper and colored pencils. She was immediately drawn to the human figure and the slow feeling of drawing. Over time she grew to be fascinated by societal connotations of the body and how to catalog and understand them. Today, she focuses her practice on the pursuit of meaningful interpersonal connection and tending to a healthy state of repose through oil pastel portraits of herself and her peers.
Artist Statement
This series is focused on bigness and the occupation of space with form and attitude. An inordinate amount of people in our society are forced into contact with built environments that are not viable for their bodies to exist without emotional or tactile conflict. The immense bodies in the work exist comfortably, brightly and confidently. Despite their restricting space, and resisting change demanded by the inadequacy of their environment.
