Some people love magpies and other people think they are a nuisance. I happen to love them. I delight in their intelligence (they are members of the Corvid family of very smart birds) and in their antics outside our windows. Before our super old spruce tree broke in a high windstorm last spring, we had magpie families nesting in that tree, and making a ruckus every morning. Do you think magpies are beautiful and deserve some respect?
I made this monotype using a painterly method with some botanical materials to make embossed designs. The printing ink is painted directly onto a blank printing plate using fingers, brushes or other implements, then printed once. After printing the piece, I added washi paper collage elements.
It's a one-off print that I hope makes you as happy as it makes me! Printed on 100% cotton rag BFK Rives paper, framed with natural maple and conservation glass.
