Artist Grants:

CERF+ COVID-19 Relief Grant: Cycle II

CERF+ is launching the COVID-19 Relief Grant program to provide financial assistance to professional artists working in craft disciplines who are facing dire circumstances from the COVID-19 crisis. As part of CERF+’s broader COVID-19 crisis response strategies, this special program will provide one-time grants to meet urgent food, housing and/or health insecurities.

AMOUNT: $1,000

DEADLINE: September 9, 2020

FINE PRINT: The program will focus on those facing the most severe financial pressures. Priority will be given to eligible artists who have traditionally been underserved by the grantmaking community including people of color and folk and traditional artists. Learn more here.

 

Wachtmeister Award

The Wachtmeister Award is presented every two years in rotation to a prominent writer, visual artist, or composer whose significant achievement in the arts is widely recognized. This award acknowledges the vital role of the arts in our world, the importance of artists who exemplify excellence in their field, and the necessity of time and space for the creative phase of all artistic work.

LOCATION: Amherst, VA

DEADLINE: September 15, 2020

FINE PRINT: The award includes: a fully-funded fellowship of up to 30 days (between July 1, 2021 and January 31, 2023) at VCCA’s Mt. San Angelo, an honorarium of $1,000, a reimbursed travel expenses of up to $750. A VCCA residency includes an individual studio, a private bedroom, and meals in a community of over 20 professional writers, visual artists, and composers. Learn more here.

 

John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowships

The Foundation offers Fellowships to further the development of scholars and artists by assisting them to engage in research in any field of knowledge and creation in any of the arts, under the freest possible conditions.

WHO: Visual artists from the U.S. and Canada.

AMOUNT: The amounts of grants vary, and the Foundation does not guarantee it will fully fund any project.

FINE PRINT: On the application, you must include a chronological list of shows, citing dates and places, and a list of collections in which your work is represented. Artists' Fellowship, Inc.

The Artists’ Fellowship provides emergency aid to professional fine artists and their families in times of sickness, natural disaster, bereavement or unexpected extreme hardship.

WHO: Professional artists in the U.S.

AMOUNT: TBD

DEADLINE: Meeting monthly from September to June, the Board of Trustees reviews all applications to determine if they have been properly submitted and if they are eligible.  Applicants are encouraged to submit early in the month. 

FINE PRINT: “Professional” is defined as those visual artists who make their livelihood through sales as reported on a Schedule C with a U.S. Federal tax return. An active exhibition history is also an important part of documenting “professional.” Learn more here.

 

Calls-for-Art:

Wales Contemporary

Supported by the Welsh Government, Wales Contemporary / Cymru Gyfoes is the first art competition dedicated to everything Welsh. Wales Contemporary celebrates all aspects of the country by inviting artists to submit work that is inspired by Wales, its people, its history, its landscape and its contemporary culture. Artists can win £12,000 in cash prizes and show their work in an exhibition at OXO Tower, in central London, and The Waterfront Galleries, Milford Haven.

WHO: The competition is open to all artists aged 18 and over based in the UK or internationally.

DATES: The Wales Contemporary / Cymru Gyfoes exhibition will open at the Waterfront Gallery on Friday 6th November and close on Thursday 26th November 2020. It will then tour to the gallery@oxo from Thursday 25th February to Sunday 7th March 2021.

FINE PRINT: Artists may enter up to three works. The artwork can be 2 or 3-dimensional and in any medium apart from photography or film. For 2-dimensional work, the maximum size limit is 140cm in any dimension. For 3-dimensional work, the maximum size is 50cm in any dimension. There is no minimum size limit. The artwork must be for sale. Sale prices should be inclusive of 30% commission. The artwork must have been made in the last three years. The entry fee is £15 for one work, £25 for two, and £34 for three.

 

2020 International Photography Competition

Announcing ViewPoint Gallery’s international juried call for submissions. This is an opportunity to exhibit your work for one month at ViewPoint Gallery, the only gallery in Halifax devoted to photography. 12 winning images will be selected from the digital entries. The Portrait

SE Center for Photography invites photographers to apply for their juried exhibition “The Portrait”. We use portraits as objects of remembrance and reverence, of seduction and glorification. From the keepsakes in lockets as tiny remembrances of love, to the likenesses of leaders meant to inspire and seduce with their power. They can stir, and confront, and drive us to action. Just as they can lull in longing for a time since passed. They act as a mirror in whose reflection we find the inward experiences of ourselves, or as a window from which we look out toward the virtues of another.

Earth

ZEST Hall is a virtual gallery hosted by Round Lemon. We aim to contribute even more to the cultural life by organizing an exhibition once every three months. Every show will last for 12 weeks. The purpose of this show is to make a selection of artists from all around the world that associates their practice with Earth, including artworks that conceptualize ethical issues about ecology, climate change (e.g. waste, pollution, recycling, natural resources), animal rights, world cultures, religion and beliefs (e.g. extra-terrestrial), immigration, and human development.

Political Discord: Online Exhibition

Though often divisive and inflammatory, we can’t avoid politics in today’s world. The intrinsic beliefs and opinions that shape us as human beings can almost always be seen in a political light. For our show this month, we seek art that expresses all things political, regardless of party or belief systems. This online exhibition hopes to explore our continued political discourse with the use of imagery to make the point of our current state of the nation.

2021 9 for 19 Exhibition

First Street Gallery announces a unique exhibition opportunity, “9 for 19” held in our Chelsea Gallery. The show will highlight a select group of nine artists, who will have an exhibition area of approximately 12’ x 12’ of wall space (not necessarily contiguous). Selected artists may, within reason, use their space in whatever manner they feel shows their work to its best advantage.

Street Photography 2020

Vivian Maier, an unknown, left behind a treasure of images she took while walking outside on time off. Cartier-Bresson, Frank, Meyerowitz, Arbus, Evans, the list of accomplished street photographers go on. Their work captured a special essence of life, not posed, not set up but there in the streets, yards, avenues, porches... we pass every day. The New York Center for Photographic Arts (NYC4PA) invites photographers to shoot those street images that set them apart from snapshots. Project Studios Art Residency and Solo Exhibition in NYC

The Project Studios Residency is a work-only visual art residency focused on production of new artwork within a very well-equipped suite of studios. The artist or artists chosen for the residency will be awarded a solo exhibition at PROTO GOMEZ Gallery in New York City in Spring of 2021. The exhibition will be featured on the PROTO Gallery Artsy page and all social media for PROTO Gallery and PROTO GOMEZ.

TGF Art Challenge to Celebrate Vision

The TGF Art Challenge is raising money to fund sight-saving glaucoma research. Beginning as a virtual gallery of original artworks, it will culminate in a beautiful hardbound art book. As an artist, you can choose to enter the challenge in one of three categories by sending us a digital version of your work – an original photograph, drawing, painting, collage, or sculpture. Your work will come into full resolution in the gallery once donations in your honor reach the entry-level: Young Artists (up to age 18) – $250 in donations brings your work into focus; Amateur Artists – $500 in donations brings your work into focus; Professional Artists – $1,000 in donations brings your work into focus

Volume 13 Open Call - Publication Opportunity for Emerging Artists

Apply to have your work considered to be published in Volume 13. FOA is a platform dedicated to elevating the work of emerging artists and bridging the gap between artists and the art world.

DATES: Volume 13 will release early 2021

LOCATION: Distributed to over 50 galleries, curators, and institutions and online through Amazon and Barnes and Noble

DEADLINE: September 20, 2020

FINE PRINT: Artists can submit up to six works. Accepted artists will have a four-page spread of their work, information, and a short essay written by an art historian. Volume 13 will be juried by Marco Galvan, Alice Bonnot, Camilla Moresi, and FOA staff. Before September 20th there is a submission fee of $25, after September 20th there is a $35 submission fee. Selected artists are responsible for a $75 fee. With this fee, the artists will receive a copy of Volume 12 and help cover distribution fees.

 

Sunday Times Watercolour Competition 

Now in its 33rd year, The Sunday Times Watercolour Competition is the largest and most prestigious prize for contemporary watercolor painting in the UK. Hugely popular with artists, gallery visitors, and readers of The Sunday Times, this art prize celebrates the beauty and diversity of water-based painting. For the first time, the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition is going international and is now open to artists from the UK and around the world. With over £10,000 worth of prizes, a national touring exhibition, and exposure in The Sunday Times, this is an opportunity not to be missed for amateur and professional watercolorists.

Keyholder Printmaking Studio Residency

Lower East Side Printshop, NY, offers emerging artists FREE year-long studio residencies to develop new work and foster their artistic careers. Printmaking facilities are available for intaglio, relief, monotype, water-based screenprinting, digital processes, and other techniques that employ the tools at hand.

Artist in the Community Artist-in-Residence

The Currier Museum of Art invites applications for our new social practice artist residency, Artists in the Community, for a residency period beginning in late winter/early spring 2021. The residency program is central to the Currier Museum’s mission of connecting audiences with art and creative thinking. Artists in the Community deepens this mission through an open call to social practice artists who share the goal of impacting people through the transformative power of art.

WHO: Artists and small collectives (no more than 3 people) working in any media are eligible to apply.

DATES: Residency begins March/April 2021

LOCATION: Manchester, NH

DEADLINE: September 1, 2020

FINE PRINT: Applicants must demonstrate a history of social engagement in their artmaking practice and production. Successful applicants will develop an innovative project with tangible outcomes that align with the tenets of their own practice, the mission of the museum, and the needs of the community partner(s) with whom they will collaborate.  Learn more here.

 

Monson Arts Winter/Spring 2021 Residency

Monson Arts’ residency program supports emerging and established artists and writers by providing them time and space to devote to their creative practices. During each of our 2-week and 4-week programs throughout the year, a cohort of roughly 5 artists and 5 writers are invited to immerse themselves in small-town life at the edge of Maine’s North Woods and focus intensely on their work within a creative and inspiring environment.

WHO: Open to anyone at any stage of their career, working in visual arts, writing, and related fields (i.e. audio, video, photography)

DATES: January 31 - February 26, 2021; February 28 - March 26, 2021; or March 28 - April 9, 2021 (2-week session)

LOCATION: Monson, ME

DEADLINE: September 15, 2020

FINE PRINT: Residents receive studio space, housing, all meals, and $1,000 stipend ($500 for 2-week residencies). Due to safety protocols in place to continue residencies during the COVID-19 pandemic, program dates may change by one or two days. We will also be placing fewer residents in each session to ensure the safest accommodations possible. Learn more here.

 

Hambidge Residencies

The oldest residency program in the Southeast, Hambidge provides a self-directed program that honors the creative process and trusts individuals to know what they need to cultivate their talent, whether it’s to work and produce, to think, to experiment or to rejuvenate. Residents’ time is their own; there are no workshops, critiques, nor required activities.

WHO: Creatives worldwide

DATES: February through April 2021

LOCATION: Rabun Gap, GA

DEADLINE: September 15, 2020

FINE PRINT: Hambidge offers several merit-based Distinguished Fellowships which remove the fees for a two-week residency and provide a $700 stipend. Each resident is given their own private studio which provides work and living space with a bathroom and full kitchen. Learn more here.
