Skye Coddington is a homeschooling mom who lives with her sweet family on the beautiful Central Coast in California. She draws inspiration from her daily life, and captures the subjects she wants to translate onto canvas with her iPhone or her Canon DSLR. With a background in photojournalism, she is trained to see the beauty and the story in the everyday moments of our lives. Her photography is an integral part of her artistic process. To get the landscape shots she’s after, she often will pull over on the side of the road on her way to the grocery store or while ferrying her kids around to their various activities. She sloshes through mud, hunting rain clouds after good winter storms. Other moments are just what she sees as she looks around her world – leaves on the side of the road as she views them through the morning sunlight, a neighboring horse ranch at sunset, or a pot boiling on the stove.
The paintings in her newest series, Embodiment, are of the dancers at the Academy of Dance in San Luis Obispo, where her daughter has been taking classes for the past seven years. The artist has naturally found inspiration in the subject, and feels fortunate to have the opportunity to incorporate their dance into her art.
Skye enjoys the challenge of tackling new subjects and taking on work that demands she expand and grow her skills. Her primary goal with her art is to continually explore her creative abilities, and to share that evolution with the world.
