JARDIM do Amor (Koi)
Summer 2017
(Koi) is a meditation and a koan on canvas on the contrast between stillness and exuberance; loneliness, love and the collective.
A trio of black parrots in a esoteric discussion, alight from above among the plants in the veranda overlooking the lush garden below and the shimmering ocean between the jacaranda trees,
They position themselves between the fragrant blooms. They shakeout their shiny coats to the tune of their well reasoned arguments. They pluck out the mites, in love with the song of their own voice.
The Two ask the third to agree on the facts of a matter. But the First can't be persuaded either way. An argument breaks out. Feathers are suddenly flashing like switchblades. Sharp insults are exchanged. At the point of murder, they finally agree to disagree. Each of them retreating to the quiet affirmations and doubts of their private thoughts.
Meanwhile the world rages. A tear tears falls. Someone is watering the houseplants.
The koi moves just below the surface.
in stillness.
