This public sculpture is permanently installed on the grounds of Zucker Hillside Hospital in Queens, NY. It was created in loving memory of David Antar, a former patient at the hospital and founder of the case management agency specializing in addictions, C.R.I. Out! David’s mother, artist Robin Antar, began carving this tribute to her son nine months after he died at age 26. The piece began with a 1,500-pound block of Turkish marble at the 2014 MARBLE/marble 26 workshop. The stone has veins of purple – young David’s favorite color and the “secret code” he whispered when life got hard and he needed Robin’s help. She carved a knot to represent David’s hard life; but, it breaks open into a flame to show how he rose above the hardships and finally, as a soul, rose even higher -- into Heaven itself. “This was an extremely hard thing for a mother to do; but for me, as a sculptor, it was also a work of healing. I believe the high quality of care at The Zucker Hillside Hospital helped my son grow up to be a better man.” - Robin Antar
