Colorful Abstractions that Remind You to follow Your Heart
Owens is an organic artist who creates abstract art by listening to her intuition. From an early age, she was interested in art but her parents did not encourage her efforts. She became what she describes "A closet artist. Everything I created was done in a covert manner and immediately put in the back of a closet." As an only child, she complied with her parents' wishes and waited until both died before she began her studies with professional artists. She draws her influences from her cross-cultural childhood growing up in a steel making town, her domestic environment with husband, two Amazon parrots and a cat, and her spirituality.
"I feel everyone ought to have real art, not a reproduction. Real, original art gives you a peek into the artist's thoughts, dreams or experiences. It allows the viewer to share their heart."
She is a graduate of Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA. Her studio is in Bradenton, FL. She is a member of the National League of American Pen Women, Sarasota Branch, The Florida Artist Group, Women Contemporary Artists and the International Society of Experimental Artists. Her work has been exhibited in juried shows and galleries on the the East and West coasts of the United states and also in international exhibits. She teaches workshops, "Discovering Abstractions", at the Ringling College of Art & Design Continuing Education in Sarasota, FL and "Painting Abstractions Without Brushes" art Art Center Manatee in Bradenton, FL.
