This work was inspired by a photo taken by the artist in Palmyra, Syria of Roman ruins that have since been destroyed by ISI. Textile bands are patterned after the hand woven textiles purchased by the artist in the village of Palmyra. The original woven bands were used by nomadic tribes as lashing for the construction of their yurts, and to secure baggage to their camels when traveling. They represent the transient nature of the societies that have lived in this area. The majority of fabrics in this piece are hand-dyed and hand-printed by the artist. Yarns are hand-dyed and hand-spun by the artist.
