I undertook this unique sculpture as a study in the strength and fluid motion of the horse as he jumps an obstacle on the cross-country course. It is the proposed model for a commissioned sculpture that is to be 5’ tall. The eagerness in his expression and the bright eyes assessing the jump are a testament to the joy and the anticipation the horse feels at running the test. First, the horseshoes were heated red hot in a forge, then the process of hammering, bending, cutting and twisting the shoe begins...and is repeated many times over transforming the shoes into the shapes that in the end form the sculpture.
