MessageThis 12" x 9" mixed media self portrait started at the Nanaimo Art Gallery in Sara Robichaud's workshop several months ago. I was not completely happy with it at that time so I put it away for a while. Tonight I felt that I understood the subject matter sufficiently to tackle the painting again. The painting now contains my sense of "Paradise" when I am painting. Now it is "balanced".
This painting which forms part of the group show "Fall Invitational: In Conversation II" is a great match for the #2 poem by Ayah Soliman. ( and the # 1 poem too).
The Coast Collective Gallery website states "Fall Invitational: In Conversation II, October 5 to 30.
Building on the success of the Coast Collective’s first collaboration between poets and painters in 2015, the region’s poets have again inspired a talented cadre of artists to create original works for this important exhibition.
The invitational exhibit is part of the Coast Collective’s 8th anniversary celebration and fundraising activities in support of the Society for Arts on the South Island, the arts non-profit which operates the Coast Collective Art Centre. A 60-page full colour soft-cover book has been produced chronicling the collaboration, which will be released on October 5.
