Gabriela Alfaro is a Guatemalan contemporary visual artist that combines encaustic with other techniques such as printmaking, collage, and fibers. She was born in Guatemala City in 1974 to a family of award winning poets and writers. She was drawn to the arts at a very early age and found in the visual arts a way to channel her creativity. Her art is characterized by the use of maps, old photos, wax and thread which are used to create two and three dimensional pieces that evoke memories of growing up in Guatemala.
She has exhibited her artwork in important group and individual shows. Her artwork is displayed in many private collector residences in Guatemala and has been part of several workshops led by renowned Guatemalan artists. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts and has been an Art professor at a well-known American high school in Guatemala for the past 10 years.
