Artist: Louis Stettner (American, 1922-2016)
Grew up in Brooklyn and started photography around the age of 12. Received encouragement from Alfred Stieglitz and Paul Strand to develop his skills in photography and was largely a self-taught photographer. Was influenced greatly by the Photo League and the idea of “Humanist Realism.” Works are held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art and several other institutions.
