Artist: Larry Zox (American, 1937-2006)
American painter and printmaker. Zox is known for brilliantly colored paintings with juxtaposed geometric forms. In his early works, he utilized specific motifs for individual painting; his later works autonomize color over structure. Zox's works in collage served as the muse for his paintings, however, he later abandoned collage entirely to focus on flat color surfaces. He moved away from previous preconceptions of painting to explore new ways of cuttting canvases and applying paint. Collected works found in major museums including Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Guggenheim Museum, New York; The Tate Modern, London; the Neues Museum, Bremen, Germany, etc.
