Who doesn't love poppies?!
My skies always come in first; not sure why, they just do. They always show me where the painting will go and give me a glimpse, the truth, as to where I am emotionally. Skies come quick. That's how I know they are my emotions expressing themselves, showing me the way.
There is no hiding from the canvas. I can try, but it never works. When I approach a blank white canvas I bring with me my current state of mind. Often, I intend to wish myself away from my emotional state by painting in an opposite direction in order to change my state. This never works, thank God, or my paintings would be garbage - they would simply be copies of nature, or something static. They would not be honest. This painting, 'POPPIES,' was a wonderful exception, where my intention matched the outcome.
I stepped up to that canvas in a hopeful, carefree mood, wanting to celebrate life, the feelings I had on a recent walk seeing a field poppies that I don't usually notice. That day, I did, as I took the time to sit there, for the longest time, enjoying the time, just feeling 'happy' - and I didn't ever want to forget this moment. I wanted to remind myself that the poppies were there and would always be there; that I could always be there if I pay attention. I could always be happy, if pay attention.
Enjoy.
NOTE: Frames are custom made for my paintings with extra wide space for floating the canvas to accentuate the artwork. I've also added a small inner wood trim recessed within the recess to add a small accent.
