During our art residency at Fort Union National Monument near Las Vegas, New Mexico, I was inspired by the ruins of the large stone and adobe storehouse. During our month at the fort, we learned to appreciate the significant chapters of American history that were "written" on those high plains. This building is one of the best preserved and was very important to the fort in its heyday. Interpretive Ranger Greg inspired us with his passion for this place and its prominence in 1880's American history. He told us that this building was his favorite of the ruins. We visited it again and again and began to understand why Greg was drawn to know more about this place.
