The photograph of Barbara Massey-Mapps in the NYT's magazine inspired this painting. It's a disturbing story. She suffered through court hearings, media scrums and ruined holidays to see the white supremacist who killed her sister convicted. "There's an anger that I never knew I could have in me". Her sister was one of the 10 people murdered by a 19-year-old white supremacist in a Buffalo shooting last spring. Barbara's sister Kat was the type to think not only that the world could be a better place but that she should be one of the stewards of that change. There are too many stories like this
