A brightly hued immature male Summer Tanager. Not as well known as their fellow red songbird, the Cardinal, male Summer Tanagers are a lovely red color while the females are a mustard yellow color. Young males, like this one, transition from yellow to red as they mature. While they breed across much of the country, they are a rare treat when we see them here in South Carolina.
